Fire, Burning...

Posted 2005-01-15-2305

I was having a Chirstmas Morning. I had just managed to get my new Dual Opteron computer going and because it was so hot, wasn't able to sleep. So I was awake and working hard on getting everything installed that I wanted.

So I was well awake and alert around 7:10am this morning when I heard some yelling, sounding very urgent. I went downstairs to see what was happening. Smoke was coming from the hatch over the spa pool pump in a garage - thick black smoke. I was sent upstairs to wake Mel and Iain. The smoke was getting thicker and was starting to fill the rest of the house. Dad and Iain emptied a fire extinguisher each into the pump area before calling the fire brigade.

The had to tear into two of the walls around the pump as the fire had started burning inside them. The invesigator said that if it had been left 3 minutes longer, the whole house would have caught fire.

The moral of the story is that the smoke detector in the garage saved our whole house (dad heard it) - smoke detectors are definitely worth it.

It stank out the whole house and the day turned out to be stinking hot (33 degrees). Most unpleasent, but at least I'm safe and I am happy for that.
