tpserver-cpp and GSoC

Posted 2008-04-27-1113

I guess I should add my congratulations to the students selected for Google Summer of Code 2008, specially those with Thousand Parsec.

I am mentoring one student, and there are two others working on tpserver-cpp. There are also two students working on AI's for RftS, which is a ruleset for tpserver-cpp. You can tell I'm going to be busy.

I am mentoring Dustin working on Tigris and Euphrates ruleset adaptation. It will give us a new ruleset that should be reasonably quick to play. Last year student Tyler is mentoring Ryan to create a Risk-like ruleset, another quick game. The third project, mentored by JLP, is a Remote server configuration protocol and implementation in tpserver-cpp.

Currently, I'm trying to stabilise tpserver-cpp, and in particular the mysql persisetnce module, for 0.5.0 release. It's been nearly a year, and the change log is huge! TP04 support, RftS ruleset from GSoC07, ObjectView, rewritten tpmysql persistence, etc. I hope to have it released in the next few weeks, so it is out before this year's summer of code starts.
