Documentation and tpserver-cpp release

There is something about writing documentation for something that absolutely no one else knows. It think it might be in part showing just how smart/cleaver you are and teaching people something truly new.

I didn't really feel that while writing my thesis, but I did yesterday when writing the documentation about the sockets in tpserver-cpp (on the wiki). Ok, so it doesn't read the well, but gets the things it needed to across.

I guess I should also mention I released tpserver-cpp 0.5.0 last week. Things are looking interesting on the GSoC project side too.

Older entries

Welcome to a tiny hole in the World Wide Web called my homepage.

I should probably add something useful like a link to the two Open Source projects i work on: WorldForge and Thousand Parsec, and maybe links to Cosc at Uni and Golden Key.

I should mention I do some contract work in Electronic and Computer System Research and Design, and sell computers (mostly Linux) and Firewalls.

My CV might not be a bad idea either.

And my GPG Public Key. Please sign it and email it back to me (along with your key so I can sign it).

Online Quizes, etc

Posted 2005-05-08 - I have created a new page to hold the results of online quizes and the like I have taken (including the one that was on this page previously).

Access Keys & RSS

Posted 16/10/04 - About a week ago I added RSS for my blog. RSS rocks, use a program called an aggregator to pull several news sources (like slashdot, and people's blogs) and it notifies you when there is new content. Couldn't be easier.

I have also added Access Keys to (almost) all my pages. Access Keys also rock, and are helpful to people who need the accessibility, or the easy of navigation. Konqueror (3.3) is really good at it.

Website design changes

Posted 14/8/04 - I thought it was about time to change the design here. I really love CSS (I used to hate it). For those of you using real browsers, like Mozilla, Konqueror, and a few others (that does not include IE), you can still see the old design by using the "Altenative Stylesheet" menu. I might add a few designs as well.

I have also started writing a proper blog system for the column (now on the right). I might add the old posts in the next couple of weeks, or maybe later today or tomorrow.

Update: Posted 17/8/04 - Blog system is up and running with most of the old posts. See here.

Open Source Stuff

Open Source Space Craft project. Also see my open source page.

Galleries

I now have a few galleries of images online here.

Ray Tracings

I have a whole lot of ray traced images. I have a gallery for Dart traced images. Here is my gallery of my older povray tracing.

Holiday Pics

Posted 6/1/04 - I have put up some holiday pics. In doing so, I have installed Gallery, which is a nice app for doing photo albums. Expect to see more albums in the future.

IPv6

Posted 7/8/03 - I have been keeping my eye on IPv6 for a while now. I learnt of it about 2 years ago ("Imagine someday your telephone number became 4 times longer"). After a single lecture and 4 - 5 hours of additional reading I'm hooked. When I get around to it I'll enable IPv6 on all my computers.

Posted 3/4/04 - Update! I've been running IPv6 on serveral of my machines for a while now. I have even ported the TP server to IPv6. just need to find more uses for it.

Golden Key Canterbury wins Key Chapter award

Posted 7/8/03 - My chapter of Golden Key at the University of Canterbury has won a Key Chapter award at this year's international convention. It's been fun over the last year, and have met many people who have helped make it the success that it is. Only 10 Key Chapter awards are given out each year. There are over 350 Golden Key Chapters worldwide.

Pegasos

Posted 7/8/03 - I have been keeping an eye on Pegasos, a PowerPC based computer. Still in development, and only G3 processors but later in the year there should be G4 processors, and hopefully dual G4s - nice. I think I'll try to get one. See their website (link on the links page).

Esperanto

Over the last couple of weeks I've been thinking about learning Esperanto. I have never been good at learning lanuages (I have always been forced to.) I have learnt a little bit, when I have some more time (unlikely) I will learn some more.

Wireless Metro Area Network

I've just read the IEEE 802.16 spec. Interesting if not a bit long (349 pages). Would like to do that here. Does someone have NZ$20,000 for venture capital handy?

On the other hand maybe all I really want is faster Internet. Cheap too.

Computer stuff

See my computer page. See also my Links page.

I will probably say something irrelevant here.

Here is my whole name so that google might notice it (and because I don't really brand it round much): Charles Lee Begg.
