"Archipelago", Part 1, Chapter 1, Scene 1
This is the first scene of the first chapter of the first part of "Archipelago". Any suggestions, email.
"Oh, while I think of it Andy, Maui would like to come with you to the lookout since it's your last time."
Andy looked at Boh and rolled his eyes when she gave him her "please, just for me" look.
They walked slowly knee-deep in water along the beach at the head of Deep Bay, on the south edge of the central plan, which lay between two mountain ranges in the west and one in the east and two large bays in the north and the south.
"Alright," Andy caved in and then, louder than necessary, said, "Maui can come with me to the lookout."
The bushes just up the beach rustled. As Andy had guessed, Maui jumped out and ran down the golden sand. Boh and Andy had a little giggle as Maui tripped in the shallow water. He picked himself up and hugged Boh, who whispered something in his ear. Maui turned around, head bowed slightly and solemnly said, "Thank you very much, Andy."
"You're welcome. Just make sure you are packed up and ready just after sun rise tomorrow."
Maui's eyes lit up. He grinned and nodded. He then ran off in the direction of his village on the north-east edge of the central plane, obviously to tell his friends and anyone who would listen.
"I wonder how well he will cope on the boat."
"Boh, I wonder how we all will cope on the boat," Andy replied, taking Boh's hand.
They walked down the beach for a few minutes until Boh stopped.
"I'd better get back, and so should you. I'll see you tomorrow before you leave or failing that, in four days."
Andy hugged Boh. "Yeah, see you then."
Boh started walking in the direction Maui had gone. She sneaked a look at Andy who was looking at her, still knee-high in the tide. She giggled to herself as she headed through the forest to her village. Andy sighed, looked out the long bay, then checked the position of the sun. The sun was still high in the sky, so he started walking, diagonally along the beach, in the opposite direction of Boh, to take the "scenic" path, along the cliff tops edging the north-west corner of Deep Bay, to his village by the estuary halfway down the bay.
That's a nice thing about being on an island, Andy thought to himself, you can always find a quiet, private place. There definitely won't be any on the boat.
Any suggestions, email.
